Rural Life
We are bordered by meadows on 2 sides which are stocked with cattle and appaloosa horses which roam around their property and watch us as much as we watch them.
It is a tranquil outlook with the mountains behind, rainforest along our Western side boundary and cane fields waving in the breeze as far as the eye can see out the front of the property.

Being set a hill, we have tremendous

360 degree views and there is always something to catch your eye.
Birds or the cane trains during harvest in the distance, the
cattle tending their family or the wallabies that hop through the back paddocks or graze on the front lawn.
We have a resident Curlew who comes to visit and may stay a day or a week. If you are lucky enough to kill a fly and put your hand out, she will come up and take it gently from your hand.
Tully Township is only 8 klm away and here you can see the famous Golden Gumboot which you can climb. Take photos from the top of the Tully Sugar Mill, the most productive and profitable in the region. Harvest time is from June till November and tours of the mill run daily during this time.
Markets are in the main street of Tully on the 2nd and 4th Saturdays of the month. They also have the annual Tully Show during Showtime July each year. Mission Beach also has markets on the 1st and 3rd Sunday of each month, and then from April till November there is a monster market on the last Sunday of the month. The markets show a mix of the great characters that abound our region from the hippies in the hills, to the art society with their fabulous gallery, to the fishermen that sell their trade and the produce and flower markets abound. A great few hours can be spent at the Monster market. You can even have breakfast and lunch there as well. All markets finish at midday.

El Arish is to the North of us around 9 klm and that is where the famous El Arish Tavern is located. A beautiful old pub with relics of the past dotted all through the bar and some interesting locals as well. The tavern does lovely lunches daily and is open for dinner 6 nights. Even if you only pop in for a beer and have a look around, it is a must see in this area.
Silkwood, is around 5 minutes drive north of El Arish and is the little town that was totally devastated by Cyclone Larry in 2006, but is slowing coming back to normal. There is one house there that should not be missed that is hand built by an Italian farmer and needs to be seen to be believed, but we will tell you where it is. Interesting! This is the township you should pass through for those wanting to go to Paronella Park for the day, but more of Paronella later.
